Clara Bow The It Girl Half-dressed

Hollywood, California
c. 1933 CB3310

Costume
Pasties-style soutien-gorge and skirt. Cape, heels, anklets.

   TML.

Actions
A radiant and leggy Clara Bow partly covers herself with a cape (1). She squints and looks into the audience (2). The costume seems to consists of some sort of oversize pasty bra, along with a skirt overtop panty briefs (3). A side view (4).

Commentary
This dance costume is trend-sentting in the early 1930s, with its combination of appraently strapless sideless coupled with a bare midriff and bare legs protrouding from a panty brief. And who better to wear it than the It Girl, one of those flappers who earns her own moniker. Like many stars, Bow dons minimal dance clothes, not just here, but before in Three Weekends (CB2882).
