Jean Rogers frail posture and trademark revealing halter and skirt endears her to moviegoers; here she stands with her hands back against a wall (2, 3). Captured, a guard probes her forward (4). The bare-midriff Rogers is flanked by Ming the Merciless on her left and the conniving Princess Aura (Priscilla Lawson) on her left, both clad in bare-belly tops, long hair, heels that are quite racy for the 1930s (5). Zona watches on as Emperor Kala and the Shark Man carry an unconscious Dale Arden (6). Princess Aura is Ming's daughter, and vies with Dale Arden for Flash Gordon's affections (7). Commentary Science fiction movies have been a good excuse for a bare midriffs since the late 1920s, and Universal Pictures dishes up a rich helping of them in the Flash Gordon serials.
