Ms. Lacing Tied up the Side

Faux beach, probably Paris, France
c. 1903 PC0E60

Costume
Red maillot lattice-side pantaloon. Hat, choker collar, shoes.

   TML. Armpits.

Actions
A young lass leans back with her hands behind her head (1).

Commentary
This early lattice-side maillot bares a wide swath of the side of the body at a time when pinups are experimenting with new exposures. This side arangement definately involves a lacing which runs back and forth down the side of the swimsuit, probably traveling through eyelets, and which then ties at the bottom. This allows the same swimsuit to be worn by models of different sizes!
Compare to a different lacing approach a decade or two later (VG0095_2663).
